WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (14-8, 10-4) made it three victories in a row with a 71-61 win over King (9-11, 6-7) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton sophomore guard
Layne Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) led all scorers with 17 points including 15 in the first half while senior guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) tallied a double-double – 14 points and 13 rebounds – in the win.
Sleight hit four three-pointers and the Bulldogs held a 44-31 edge in rebounding and led most the way in the victory. Barton held a 37-29 advantage at halftime forced the Tornado into 16 turnovers.
King's Aliyah Hawkins (Crossville, Tenn.) and Emma Larios (Piney Flats, Tenn.) each scored 16 points despite the loss. The Tornado also saw their two-game winning streak snapped.
Barton hits the road and travels to Mount Olive, N.C., to take on rival Mount Olive on Wednesday evening beginning at 5:00 p.m., in a league contest.
Meanwhile, King faces Converse in league action on Tuesday in Spartanburg, S.C., starting at 5:00 p.m.
