MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (15-8, 11-4) won its fourth straight contest with a 63-41 triumph over rival Mount Olive (6-15, 3-12) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas game at Kornegay Arena.
Barton sophomore guard
Layne Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) led the Bulldogs with 14 points while sophomore forward
MaKayla Noble (Salisbury, N.C.) tallied a double-double – 11 points and 11 rebounds – as the Bulldogs swept the season series from the Trojans.
Barton jumped out to a 30-14 halftime advantage and never looked back in the victory. The Bulldogs held a 49-36 edge on the boards while limiting the Trojans to just 27 percent shooting (17-for-63) for the contest.
Mount Olive was led by Jerin Truesdale (Charlotte, N.C.) with 16 points but the home team suffered its fourth consecutive setback.
Barton senior guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) added seven points, seven rebounds and three assists and moved into the top ten on the Bulldogs' all-time scoring list with 1,343 points.
Barton remains on the road to take on Belmont Abbey in a league contest Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., in Belmont, N.C. Mount Olive, meanwhile, travels to Rome, Ga., to face conference-foe Shorter on Saturday, February 14, starting at 2:00 p.m., as well.
