CENTRAL, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (13-8, 9-4) made it two victories in a row with a 76-71 triumph over Southern Wesleyan (5-16, 3-10) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at historic Tysinger Gymnasium.
Barton sophomore guard
Layne Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) led the visitors with 21 points and connected on four treys while sophomore guard
Celeste Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) added 16 points in the triumph.
The Bulldogs won despite a game-high 37-point effort from Southern Wesleyan's Makayla Raines (Jonesboro, Ga.). Gaines connected on seven three-pointers but the Warriors suffered their fourth straight setback.
The Bulldogs also held a 41-26 edge in rebounding and forced the home team into 17 turnovers in the win as well.
Barton returns home to host King in its annual Play4Kay game in league action on Saturday afternoon beginning at 2:00 p.m., inside Wilson Gymnasium.
Southern Wesleyan, meanwhile, hosts league-foe Chowan Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., as well.
