Barton baseball forces road Conference Carolinas doubleheader split with King

BRISTOL, Tenn. – The Barton baseball team (3-10, 2-7) split a Conference Carolinas doubleheader with King (6-11, 4-5) Saturday afternoon at Tornado Field.  King won the first contest by a 6-5 score while Barton prevailed in the nightcap, 10-6, to salvage the split.

Game One – King 6, Barton 5 (seven innings)
King's Mason Meinke (Tucson, Ariz.) and Christopher Rosario (San Juan, PUERTO RICO) both finished with a pair of hits and an RBI as the home team scored two runs in both the bottom of the fourth and fifth innings, respectively, and held on for the win.

Barton sophomore second baseman Blake Kolesnik (Wake Forest, N.C.) drove in a pair of runs while the Bulldogs had a pair of sacrifice flies in the top of the sixth inning to cut the margin to one but couldn't get any closer.

King's Jonathan Webster (Strawberry Plains, Tenn.) (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings and struck out three batters to earn the win while Barton junior Matthew Keoneke (Hagerstown, Md.) (0-2) was tagged with the loss.

Game Two – Barton 10, King 6
Barton jumped out to a 9-1 lead courtesy of a five-run third inning highlighted by a two-run single from freshman first baseman Ben Kablach (Virginia Beach, Va.) as the Bulldogs managed the split.

Kablach drove in three runs while junior shortstop Myles Odom (Pleasant Garden, N.C.) added two hits and two RBI in the triumph.  Barton junior Dylan Mason (Rolesville, N.C.) (1-2) was credited with his first victory of the season.

King's Tommy Regan (Gulf Breeze, Fla.) finished with a two-run double but Mitchell Kahlenberg (Waxhaw, N.C.) (1-2) was tagged with the loss.

Barton hits the road to take on third-ranked Catawba on Tuesday in Salisbury, N.C., starting at 3:00 p.m.
