WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (6-8) was shut out in a doubleheader by Lenoir-Rhyne (9-5), 9-0 and 4-0, Wednesday afternoon at Jeffries Field.
Game One – Lenoir-Rhyne 9, Barton 0 (six innings)
Lenoir-Rhyne's Madison Primm (Stem, N.C.) hit a three-run home run as part of a five-run fifth frame while Madison Wilson (Pine Hall, N.C.) improved to 5-1 on the year after throwing a three-hit shutout to go along with six strikeouts in the complete game victory.
Barton freshman
Haley Inman (Stokesdale, N.C.) fell to 3-2 after suffering the loss.
Game Two – Lenoir-Rhyne 4, Barton 0
Lenoir-Rhyne's Faith Carrigan (Taylorsville, N.C.) threw a five-hit shutout in addition to eight strikeouts while improving to 4-2 on the season.
The Bears' Autumn Joyce (Clayton, N.C.), Avery Kiger (Apex, N.C.) and Carrigan all hit home runs for the visitors.
Barton sophomore
Emily Bobo (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) (2-5) was tagged with the loss despite seven strikeouts.
Barton looks to bounce back on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Augusta in a doubleheader beginning at Noon. Meanwhile, Lenoir-Rhyne hosts Southern Wesleyan in a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m.
