WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (3-3) split its two games Friday on the first day of the Bulldog Round Robin Classic at Jeffries Field. The Bulldogs fell to Fairmont State (2-0) by a 2-1 score before winning over West Chester (0-2), 3-2, in eight innings in the nightcap.

The Falcons' Delaney Haller (Shinnston, W.Va.) (1-0) earned the complete game victory after limiting the Bulldogs to three hits and one run while Jaylin McGill (Cochranton, Pa.) came through with the game-winning RBI single in the top of the sixth inning to lift the visitors to the win.

Chaleigh Currin (Stem, N.C.) drove in a run with a double but sophomore
Emily Bobo (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) (0-2) suffered the loss despite striking out nine batters and allowing just one unearned run in sixth innings of work.

Madison Mercer (Wilson, N.C.) came through with the game-winning RBI single – scoring senior second baseman
MacKenzie Taylor (Mebane, N.C.) – in the bottom of the eighth inning in a walk-off victory.
Mercer finished with two runs batted in while freshman
Haley Inman (Stokesdale, N.C.) (1-1) earned the complete game victory after striking out eight batters.
For West Chester, Mairead Hopkins (West Chester, Pa.) had a run-scoring double in the first inning but Danielle Ciliberto (Ambler, Pa.) (0-2) took the loss.
Fairmont State defeated West Chester by a 7-4 score in the other contest today.
On Saturday, Barton hosts West Chester (Noon) and Fairmont State (2:30 p.m.) while the Golden Rams and the Falcons open the tripleheader Saturday morning starting at 9:30 a.m.
