WILSON, N.C. - The Barton women's soccer team (8-3-1, 5-2-1) held on to beat Chowan (4-7, 4-5) by a 2-1 score Tuesday evening in a pivotal Conference Carolinas contest at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
Barton received goals on a penalty kick from senior midfielder
Dot Tieszen (Anchorage, Ala.) and sophomore midfielder
Julia Morales (Frederick, Md.) in the first half and held off a late Hawks rally to sweep the season series from Chowan.
Morales' scored her first goal of the season in the 32nd minute while freshman goalkeeper
Olivia Terranova (Fayetteville, N.C.) made five saves including several key stops late in the contest to earn the win.
Chowan's Amy Cotton (Sheffield, UNITED KINGDOM) cut the lead in half at the 76:10 mark while Kylee Smith (Virginia Beach, Va.) suffered the loss in goal despite three saves on the day. Â Barton also held a 12-10 advantage in shots taken in earning its third straight victory.
Barton hosts North Greenville in a Conference Carolinas contest for Senior Day on Saturday afternoon beginning at 1:00 p.m.
Chowan, meanwhile, returns home to take on Virginia State Saturday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m.
