WILSON, N.C. - The Barton men's soccer team (4-6-1, 3-4-1) made it three victories in a row with a 2-1 win over Chowan (6-3-2, 5-2) in a Conference Carolinas showdown Tuesday night at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.
Barton freshman forward
Romeo Verhage (Aigues, SPAIN) and junior forward
Bruno Marques (Piracicaba, BRAZIL) scored goals within 80 seconds of each other early in the second half as the Bulldogs avenged an 8-0 loss to Chowan earlier in the year on Wednesday, September 16, in Murfreesboro, N.C.
Both goals were the second on the year for each player while Verhage assisted on the second score with a header in the box off a throw-in at the 52:40 mark.
Chowan cut the lead in half thanks to a penalty kick goal from Robbie Deighan (Bolton, ENGLAND) in the 85th minute but the Bulldogs prevailed in the end.
Barton held a 14-4 advantage in shots taken while junior goalkeeper
Devin Agostinelli (Apex, N.C.) earned the victory. Â Chowan's goalkeeper, Lucas Kibrya (Birmingham, ENGLAND) made three stops but suffered the loss.
Barton remains at home to take on North Greenville on Saturday afternoon in a league affair beginning at 3:30 p.m., while Chowan hosts conference-foe Young Harris Saturday starting at Noon.
