SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team snapped a two-game losing streak with a resounding Conference Carolinas win over Converse (1-16, 0-9), 90-62, Saturday afternoon at Tom and Tracy Hannah Gymnasium and the Weisiger Center.
Barton sophomore guard
Layne Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) led all scorers with a season-high 31 points to go along with five three-pointers as the Bulldogs hit 10 treys in the victory.
Converse, still searching for its first league triumph of the year, was paced by Tatiana Brown (Virginia Beach, Va.) with 18 points but the Valkyries suffered their sixth consecutive setback.
Barton used a 31-point second quarter to power its way to a 46-30 halftime advantage and the Bulldogs scored a season-high in points.
Barton also held a 51-37 edge on the boards while senior guard
Lauren Mingo scored in double figures as well, totaling 16 points in addition to seven rebounds.
Barton has a quick turnaround and will host North Greenville on Monday afternoon in a league contest at Wilson Gymnasium beginning at 1:00 p.m. Converse plays at UNC Pembroke on Monday in Pembroke, N.C., in a conference affair starting at 2:00 p.m.
