Barton softball sweeps Augusta on the road behind dominant pitching

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Barton softball team (21-19) moved back over .500 on the season with a doubleheader shutout sweep of Augusta (21-22), 4-0 and 2-0, Sunday afternoon at Jaguar Field.

Game One – Augusta 4, Barton 0
Barton senior Kierstin Cooper (Nashville, N.C.) (10-10) threw a no-hitter and a complete game shutout while the Bulldogs scored all four of their runs in the third frame for the win.

Graduate student catcher Sydney Wade (Farmville, N.C.) highlighted the inning with a two-run single while Augusta's Cadence Winder (Canton, Ga.) fell to 8-7 after taking the loss.

Game Two – Augusta 2, Barton 0
Barton freshman Emily Bobo (Mount Ephraim, N.J.) improved to 4-3 on the year after throwing her second straight shutout.  Bobo allowed just two hits while striking out three batters as the Bulldogs also extended their shutout streak to three straight contests.

Barton senior designated player Gracelyn Massey (Princeton, N.C.) finished with three hits and drove in a run to lead the visitors offensively and Bulldogs tacked on another run in the seventh frame courtesy of a Jaguar error.

Augusta's Payton Terrell (Bremen, Ga.) (2-2) was tagged with the setback.  Barton also improved its winning streak to five contests.

Barton remains on the road to take on King in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader on Friday beginning at 1:00 p.m., in Bristol, Tenn., while Augusta travels to Aiken, S.C., to play USC Aiken in a doubleheader starting at 5:00 p.m.
