WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (29-19, 19-10) split a Conference Carolinas baseball doubleheader with UNC Pembroke (27-20, 15-14) Friday afternoon at Nixon Field. The Braves won over the Bulldogs, 11-4, in the first contest while Barton prevailed, 12-4, in the nightcap.
Game One – UNC Pembroke 11, Barton 4
The Braves used an eight-run second inning to take control early with Isaias Villarreal (Detroit, Mich.) capping the frame with a two-run double and finishing with a solo home run, four hits and three RBI in the triumph.
UNC Pembroke's Jacob Smith (King, N.C.) improved to 2-1 on the season after earning the win in relief. Smith did not allow a run in two-plus innings while striking out four batters.
For Barton, graduate student designated hitter
Jerry Guzman (Jersey City, N.J.) hit a solo home run and junior third baseman
Yariel Diaz (Fort Myers, Fla.) drove in a pair of runs in despite the loss. Barton graduate student

Game Two – Barton 12, UNC Pembroke 4
The Bulldogs used an eight-run inning of their own in the fifth frame to help the home team salvage the split. Barton graduate student second baseman
Mason Staz (Olin, N.C.) hit a two-run double and senior outfielder
Evan Harding (Clayton, N.C.) added a pair of hits and two RBI in the victory.

Terel Tillman (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) allowed just two runs over five innings of work while striking out three batters to improve to 5-3 on the year.
UNC Pembroke's Moses Brown (Newport News, Va.) fell to 1-4 after taking the loss. Offensively, the Braves were led by Landon Lucas (Blythewood, S.C.) with an RBI single and Zane Brockman (Bessemer City, N.C.) went two-for-two in the setback.
The two teams wrap up the weekend series with a single game on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Barton will also be celebrating Senior Day prior to the first pitch.
