SALISBURY, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (10-8) saw its two-match winning streak come to an end with a 3-0 setback to Catawba (9-8) Friday evening at Goodman Arena.
The Indians won over the Bulldogs by scores of 25-21, 25-21 and 29-27 and swept the season series from Barton.
Catawba, in its first season of intercollegiate men's volleyball, beat Barton by a 3-2 score on Tuesday, January 28, in Wilson, N.C.
The Indians were led by Trevor Phillips (Davidson, N.C.) with 18 kills while Kristian Smith (Zebulon, N.C.) totaled 42 assists as the home team won three consecutive contests.
Barton was led by senior outside hitters
Jake Adams (Clermont, Fla.) and
Jack Sandahl (Gloucester, Va.) with 12 and 11 kills, respectively, while senior setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wis.) added 30 assists in the losing effort.
Adams also totaled 10 digs for a double-double.
Barton returns home to host Belmont Abbey on Friday in a Conference Carolinas contest Friday evening, March 14, at 7:00 p.m., inside Wilson Gymnasium while Catawba hosts Erskine on Tuesday, March 18, beginning at 7:00 p.m.
