Barton men’s basketball ends season with 86-76 setback to Chowan in the league championship

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (16-14) saw its season come to an end with an 86-76 loss to Chowan (18-9) in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Atlantic Casualty Insurance Conference Carolinas Championship Friday evening at the Jerry Richardson Indoor Stadium on the campus of Wofford College.

The Bulldogs were the sixth seed while the Hawks were seeded third.  Chowan will now face second-seeded Emmanuel (20-8) in the semifinals on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.

Chowan, who avenged a 94-72 setback to Chowan in the regular season finale on Wednesday, February 26, in Wilson, N.C., was led by Daylan Askew (Ahoskie, N.C.) with 23 points while R.J. Wilson (Raleigh, N.C.) added 22 points as the Hawks shot 51 percent (32-of-63) from the field and held a 43-26 edge on the boards in the triumph.

Askew was named the conference's player of the year a day earlier.

Barton was led by senior guard and all-league Shawn Nelson (Miami, Fla.) with a game-high 28 points despite the loss.  Senior guard Jordan Johnson (Bowie, Md.) and junior forward Trey Fields (Clayton, N.C.) also reached double figures for the Bulldogs with 11 and 10 points, respectively, but the Bulldogs hit just 12-of-21 (57 percent) from the charity stripe.
