SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (7-7, 4-0) made it five victories in a row with a 4-3 triumph over Converse (7-7, 2-3) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas match at the Sally Abney Rose Complex.
Barton was paced by sophomore
Ruya Mavi (Huddinge, SWEDEN), who prevailed at third singles and third doubles as the Bulldogs remained at the top of the league standings and the only conference team with four wins without a defeat so far this season.
The key victory may have come up fourth singles when junior
Irma Granstam (Linkoping, SWEDEN) defeated Converse's Tamanna Panwar (New Delhi, INDIA) by a score of 6-4, 7-6 (10-8).
Barton lost the doubles' point but was able to rally to take four of the six singles matches.
Barton hosts King in a league contest on Friday at 2:00 p.m., at the Michalak Tennis Complex while Converse faces Lees-McRae on Tuesday in Banner Elk, N.C., starting at 2:00 p.m.
