WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (14-14, 2-6) lost both contests, 7-1 and 7-2, to rival Mount Olive (13-13, 3-3) Wednesday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas doubleheader at Jeffries Field.
Game One – Mount Olive 7, Barton 1
The Trojans' Lacie Best (Pikeville, N.C) drove in six of the visitors' seven runs including a bases-clearing double in the top of the second inning to break the contest open.
Mount Olive's Linda Hodge (Virginia Beach, Va.) improved to 7-4 with the complete game victory. Hodge allowed just one run while striking out seven batters.
For Barton, junior outfielder
Makenzie Cyzick (Dayton, Va.) drove in a run with a double while senior
Kierstin Cooper (Nashville, N.C.) (8-8) suffered the loss.
Game Two – Mount Olive 7, Barton 2
Mount Olive's Liz Thome (Moyock, N.C.) went four-for-four with three runs batted in as the Trojans completed the doubleheader sweep.
The Trojans' Hailey King (Harrells, N.C.) improved to 4-4 after going the distance and striking out four batters.

Makenzie Burroughs (Morehead City, N.C.) and sophomore pitcher
Ali Bunch (Wilmington, N.C.) both drove in runs but Bunch (2-2) was tagged with the setback.
Barton hosts Young Harris for Senior Day in a league doubleheader on Saturday beginning at Noon while Mount Olive hosts Young Harris on Sunday in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
