WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (4-7, 1-0) opened up Conference Carolinas play with a 4-3 victory over Young Harris (3-9, 1-2) Friday afternoon at the Michalak Tennis Complex. Barton has won four of its last five contests.
The Bulldogs were able to rally in singles play after dropping the doubles' point to the Mountain Lions with Young Harris winning two of the three matches.
However, Barton did rally to win four singles' matches to prevail over Young Harris including a 6-2, 6-3 victory by senior
Silvia Fernandez-Trabadelo (Madero, SPAIN) at No. 2 singles over the Mountain Lions' Vivian Gomez (Guadalajara, MEXICO).
Fernandez-Trabadelo also teamed with junior
Alexandra Saez Lozano (Begur, SPAIN) to win at second doubles, 7-6 (7-5) over Young Harris' Holly Ashford (Coleshill, ENGLAND) and Maud Scholten (Den Bosch, NETHERLANDS). The duo has won four straight doubles matches.
Barton remains at home to take on Francis Marion in a league contest Tuesday at 2:00 p.m., while Young Harris faces Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m.
