WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (8-4) made it three wins in a row with a 7-0 shutout victory over Young Harris (3-9, 1-2) Friday afternoon in the Conference Carolinas opener at the Michalak Tennis Complex.
The Bulldogs, ranked No. 40 in NCAA Division II, also shut out its third straight opponent.
Barton was led by juniors
Felipe Mioch (Diemen, NETHERLANDS) and
Guillem Busquets Brau (Sabadell, SPAIN), freshman
Daniel Lopez (Palma De Mallorca, SPAIN), seniors
Hannes Tylehed (Stockholm, SWEDEN) and
Johan Holgersson (Bromma, SWEDEN), who all won at singles and doubles action for the home team.
Holgersson ran his winning streak to nine matches with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Young Harris' Gregor Gottein (Salzburg, AUSTRIA) at No. 5 singles while Lopez and Mioch won their fifth consecutive match together in doubles action.
The duo defeated the Mountain Lions' Greyson Williams (Miramar, Fla.) and Nills Vercruyssen (Alpharetta, Ga.) at third doubles by a 6-3 score.
Barton hosts West Virginia State on Sunday morning, March 16, at 9:00 a.m., while Young Harris faces Chowan in Murfreesboro, N.C., on Saturday starting at 10:00 a.m., in conference action.
