Barton men’s lacrosse stunned by Coker, 11-10, at home in overtime

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (1-4) couldn't hold a four-goal advantage in the third quarter and were stunned by Coker (3-2), 11-10, in overtime Wednesday afternoon at Electric Supply Company Field and Truist Stadium.

The Cobras' Justin Beighey (Culver City, Calif.) scored the game-winner with just 33 seconds left in overtime as Coker rallied from an 8-4 deficit early in the third period to pull out the win.

Beighey finished with a team-high three goals and an assist while Ryan Forehand (Kennesaw, Ga.) and Kaleb Hiltz (Norwood, Ontario, CANADA) both scored twice as the Cobras won their second straight contest.

Barton senior attacker Nic Lord (Wilmington, N.C.) also scored three times and added an assist while junior midfielder Justin Washington (Humble, Texas) added two goals but the Bulldogs lost by one goal for the second time this season:  Mars Hill upended Barton by an 11-10 score as well on the Bulldogs' home turf on Wednesday, March 19.

Washington scored with 50 seconds left in the fourth period to force the extra stanza tied at 10-all while senior Nate Lehr (Chenango Bridge, N.Y.) suffered the loss in goal for the Bulldogs despite nine saves.

Coker's goalkeeper, KJ Seymour (Ball Ground, Ga.), earned the victory after making 11 stops on the afternoon as the Cobras held a 40-38 edge in shots taken in the win.

Barton hits the road to take on Flagler on Tuesday, March 4, in Saint Augustine, Fla., beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Coker hosts Limestone on Saturday, March 1, at 7:00 p.m.
