Barton women’s basketball gets by Chowan, 61-59, to remain unbeaten in league play

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (3-4, 2-0) pulled out a 61-59 victory over Chowan (3-4, 1-2) in a Conference Carolinas game Wednesday night at the Hawks Athletic Center and Bob Burke Court.

Barton sophomore forward MaKayla Noble (Salisbury, N.C.) came off the bench to lead all scorers with 17 points while senior guard Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) added 15 points, eight rebounds and seven steals as the Bulldogs remained unbeaten in league play.

Noble's free throw with just over 90 seconds left in the contest broke a 57-all tie and proved to be the game-winner for the visitors.

Chowan's Ayanna Rutledge (Houston, Texas) scored a team-high 13 points and was one of four Hawks to hit double figures despite the loss.

The Bulldogs forced 22 turnovers and hit eight three-pointers in the winning effort.

Barton steps out of league play again this Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Raleigh, N.C., to face Shaw beginning at 2:00 p.m.  Chowan remains at home to take on Virginia State Saturday afternoon starting at 2:00 p.m.
