SALISBURY, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (6-4) won its fourth consecutive contest with a 74-70 triumph over Livingstone (1-10) Saturday afternoon at New Trent Gymnasium.
Barton sophomore guards
Layne Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) and
Celeste Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) both scored 15 points as the Bulldogs held off a late rally by the Blue Bears for the victory.
Livingstone, which outscored Barton by a 10-4 margin in the final five minutes of action, suffered its sixth consecutive defeat.
The Blue Bears lost despite the performance of Breasia Coit (Baltimore, Md.), who led all scorers with 33 points in addition to 10 rebounds on 13-of-18 shooting for the contest.
The Bears limited the Blue Bears to just 20 percent shooting (three-of-15) from behind the three-point line in the triumph.
Barton next hosts USC Aiken on Wednesday, December 31, at 2:00 p.m., inside Wilson Gymnasium.
Meanwhile, Livingstone takes on UNC Greensboro in an exhibition on Saturday, January 3, at 2:00 p.m., in Greensboro, N.C.
