PEMBROKE, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (2-3, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with an 82-59 win over UNC Pembroke (1-4, 1-1) Tuesday afternoon at Lumbee Guaranty Bank Court inside the English E. Jones Center.
Barton sophomore forward
MaKayla Noble (Salisbury, N.C.) led all scorers with 20 points off the bench and was one of four players to reach double figures for the visitors in the triumph.
The Bulldogs used a 30-point second quarter to take control and roll into intermission with a 45-35 advantage. The Bulldogs shot 53 percent (31-of-59) from the field including 72 percent (13-of-22) in the decisive second quarter.
Barton senior guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) added 15 points, five rebounds and four steals in the victory.
For UNC Pembroke, Keziyah Sanders (Sumter, S.C.) finished with a team-high 16 points but the Braves turned the ball over 15 times in the setback.
Barton returns home to take on Winston-Salem State on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., inside Wilson Gymnasium. UNC Pembroke travels to Elizabeth City, N.C., on Monday, December 1, to take on Eliazbeth City State beginning at 5:30 p.m.
