NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (0-2) put up a furious rally but fell short to Augusta (2-0) Saturday afternoon at the Christenberry Fieldhouse on the final day of the Peach Belt/Conference Carolinas Challenge.
The Jaguars' Quinasia Abercrombie (Greenville, S.C.) scored a team-high 15 points as Augusta led by as many as 18 points – 35-17 with 1:18 remaining in the second quarter – to remain unbeaten on the season.
Barton was led by sophomore guard
Layne Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) with a game-high 22 points and junior guard
Cyntiah Braden (Virginia Beach, Va.) came off the bench to score 13 points in the losing effort.
The Bulldogs' run included a 21-point fourth quarter but it wasn't enough.
Barton remains on the road to take on Coker on Wednesday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m., in Hartsville, S.C.
Augusta, meanwhile, hosts Catawba on Wednesday at 5:30 p.m., as well.
