NEWBERRY, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (0-1) opened the 2025-26 campaign with a 59-51 loss to Newberry (1-0) Friday on the first day of the Peach Belt/Conference Carolinas Challenge at Christenberry Fieldhouse on the campus of Augusta University.
With the score tied at 51-all with just over two minutes remaining, Newberry took control by ending the contest on an 8-0 run.
Newberry's Rickell Brown (Sumter, S.C.) tied for the game-high with 21 points in the victory.
Barton senior guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) also scored 21 points and moved into 18th place on the school's all-time scoring list with 1,049 points.
Barton sophomore forward
Celeste Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) also scored in double figures, totaling 10 points but the Bulldogs hit just three-of-18 attempts (17 percent) from behind the three-point line.
Barton faces Augusta on the final day of the round-robin Saturday afternoon starting at 3:30 p.m., while Newberry takes on North Greenville in the earlier contest beginning at 1:30 p.m.
Augusta beat North Greenville, 76-58, in the second contest on Friday.
