Barton women’s basketball pulls through with a 64-58 home win over Young Harris

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (8-8, 4-4) snapped a three-game losing streak with a 64-58 win over Young Harris (9-6, 3-4) in a Conference Carolinas contest Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.

Barton freshman guard Leah Hampton (Richmond, Va.) led all scorers with a career-high 23 points in addition to seven three-pointers while graduate student guard Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 15 points in the victory.

The Bulldogs led by a 29-21 score at halftime and won over the Mountain Lions despite a 27-point third quarter by the visitors.  Young Harris' Courtney Davis (Blue Ridge, Ga.) finished with a team-high 15 points off the bench but the visitors were done in by 19 turnovers as well.

Young Harris rallied to take a 51-44 advantage early in the final stanza before Barton turned the tables again to take the lead for good thanks to Walker and Hampton.  Walker hit the game-winning shot to make it a 55-54 score in the Bulldogs' favor with just under three minutes left before Hampton put the game away with back-to-back treys.

Barton junior guard Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) also neared a triple-double – 13 points, nine rebounds and seven assists – while the Bulldogs hit 10 treys on the day for the win.

Barton hits the road to take on North Greenville on Monday, January 20, at 1:00 p.m., in Tigerville, S.C., while North Greenville hosts Francis Marion on Monday beginning at 3:30 p.m.
