WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (10-10, 6-6) suffered a 78-63 loss to UNC Pembroke (16-4, 10-2) Wednesday night in a Conference Carolinas game at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Braves, who sit at the top of the East Division standings of the league, were led by Hannah Russell (Burlington, N.C.) with a team-high 16 points and were one of four players to score in double figures for the visitors.
UNC Pembroke, which swept the season series from Barton, led by as many as 22 points – 63-41 with 22 seconds left in the third stanza on a lay-up by Russell – also received 15 points from Natalie Evington (Red Springs, N.C.) and held a 41-31 edge on the boards.

Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) finished with a game-high 21 points and senior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 18 points but the Bulldogs were outscored by a 27-10 margin in the make-or-break third quarter.
Barton also hit just four-of-13 shots (31 percent) from behind the three-point line and 19-of-30 shots (63 percent) from the charity stripe.
Barton remains at home to take on North Greenville on Saturday, February 1, at 2:00 p.m., against North Greenville in league action while UNC Pembroke returns home to host Emmanuel Saturday at 2:00 p.m., as well.
