Barton women’s basketball subdued by rival Mount Olive, 61-47, at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (9-9, 5-5) suffered a 61-47 loss to rival Mount Olive (3-13, 2-9) Thursday evening in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.
 
The Trojans' Alexis Durham (Plumas Lake, Calif.) led all scorers with 18 points as Mount Olive erased a 27-22 halftime deficit to pull the upset over the Bulldogs.  Mount Olive shot 61.5 percent (16-of-26) after intermission on its way to a second straight victory.
 
Barton freshman guards Celeste Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) and Leah Hampton (Richmond, Va.) both scored 14 points but the Bulldogs were limited to just 32 percent shooting (16-of-50) for the contest in the setback.
 
With the score tied at 39-all late in the third quarter, the Trojans put together an 18-2 run to take complete control of the contest.  Mount Olive also picked up its first win away from home and held a 42-28 edge in rebounding in the triumph.
 
In the next round of Conference Carolinas games, Barton travels to Central, S.C., to take on Southern Wesleyan on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Mount Olive faces Shorter in Rome, Ga., on Saturday starting at 2:00 p.m., as well.
