CHARLOTTE, N.C. – The Barton men's volleyball team (1-3) picked up its first win of the 2025 season after splitting a tri-match Sunday at the Levine Center on the campus of Queens University of Charlotte. The Bulldogs defeated Tusculum by a 3-1 score before the host Royals won over Barton, 3-1, in the third and final match of the day.
Barton 3, Tusculum 1
The Bulldogs prevailed over the Pioneers by scores of 18-25, 26-24, 25-20 and 25-23 for their first win of the year.
Barton was led by freshman outside hitter
Lawson Hink (Brookfield, Wis.) with a team-high 18 kills while senior outside hitter
Jack Sandahl (Gloucester, Va.) added 14 kills and the Bulldogs bounced back from a first-set loss to take the win. Barton senior setter
Seth Deppe (Mukwonago, Wisc.) totaled 46 assists as well as the Bulldogs hit .316 in the victory.
Tusculum lost despite a match-high 24 kills from Deklan Wingo (Chester, Va.) and the Pioneers hit .320 in the setback. Tusculum was also hurt by 13 service errors in the contest.
Queens 3, Barton 1
The host Royals remained unbeaten on the season after defeating the Bulldogs by scores of 25-21, 25-15, 27-29 and 25-17. The home team was paced by Carson Strawbridge (Virginia Beach, Va.) with 15 kills and Queens held a 59-37 advantage in kills in the triumph. The Royals also totaled nine service aces in the contest.
Barton lost despite 15 kills from Hink and a 26-assist, eight-dig and five-kill performance from Deppe. The Bulldogs, however, were limited to a .136 hitting percentage in the setback.
Barton remains on the road to take on Marymount on Friday, January 24, at 5:00 p.m., on the campus of Virginia Wesleyan University in Virginia Beach, Va.
