CHARLESTON, W.Va. – The Barton women's volleyball team (1-5) fell twice on Saturday to Roberts Wesleyan (3-1) and Charleston (3-0) on the final day of the Charleston Invitational at the Wehrle Innovation Center.
Roberts Wesleyan 3, Barton 1
The Redhawks defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 23-25, 25-12, 25-20 and 25-19 behind a 15-kill, 14-dig performance from Olivia Price (Oviedo, Fla.). Roberts Wesleyan's Caleigh Schroeder (Maplewood, Minn.) added 42 assists and 18 digs as the Redhawks rallied after dropping the first set to take the win.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Henly Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) and senior right side hitter
Lauryn Pitt (Greenville, N.C.) with 13 and 12 kills, respectively, in the losing effort.
Charleston 3, Barton 0
The Golden Eagles defeated the Bulldogs by scores of 25-19, 27-25, and 25-15.
Charleston's Riley Hoff (Escondido, Calif.) paced the home team with a double-double – 10 kills and 14 digs – as the home team won their fourth straight match. Pitt reached double figures in kills again (10) while senior setter
Hailey Strey (Cape Coral, Fla.) finished with 18 assists for a two-match total of 33 on the day.
Barton hosts Belmont Abbey in its home opener and the Conference Carolinas opener next Friday, September 20, at 7:00 p.m., at Wilson Gymnasium.
