WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's lacrosse team (7-9) cruised past Young Harris (6-9), 14-3, in the Quarterfinals of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Championship Tuesday afternoon at Truist Stadium and Electric Supply Company Field.
The Bulldogs, the fourth seed in the tournament, host top-seeded and rival Mount Olive (10-3) in the semifinals at 4:00 p.m. The Mountain Lions were seeded fifth in the championship.
Barton junior attacker
Nic Lord (Wilmington, N.C.) led all scorers with four goals as the Bulldogs jumped out to an 8-0 lead entering intermission and never looked back in beating Young Harris for the second time this year at home.
Senior midfielders
Bryce Washington (Humble, Texas) and
J.J. Mitchell (Winston-Salem, N.C.) both scored twice for the Bulldogs, who held decisive advantages in both shots taken (41-23) and ground balls (38-26) on the day. The Mountain Lions' Tommy Chriszt (Kennesaw, Ga.) scored twice in the setback.
In goal, Barton sophomore
Drew Wheeler (Fuquay-Varina, N.C.) earned the win stopping eight shots while Young Harris' goalkeeper, Thomas Castiglia (Lakeland, N.J.), suffered the loss despite eight saves as well.
