ETTRICK, Va. – The Barton baseball team (25-7) rolled to a 17-4 win over Virginia State (8-14) Tuesday afternoon at Whaley Colbert Field.

Tanner Halvorson (Eau Claire, Wisc.) and junior first baseman
Chase Waddell (Lucama, N.C.) both drove in three runs as the Bulldogs used a nine-run sixth inning to break the contest open and run-ruled the Trojans in seven innings.
Waddell highlighted the frame with a bases-clearing triple and senior catcher
James Holladay (Philadelphia, Pa.) added four runs scored as the Bulldogs finished with 17 hits and took advantage of three errors which led to seven unearned runs in the triumph.
For Virginia State, Jimmyll Williams (Durham, N.C.) hit a bases-clearing triple in the second frame but Preston Branzelle (Chester, Va.) fell to 1-3 after suffering the loss. Barton senior
Brett Anderson (Milford, N.H.) (1-0) earned the victory after pitching two innings of relief.
Barton steps back into Conference Carolinas play this Friday when the Bulldogs travel to Bristol, Tenn., to face King at 2:00 p.m., while Virginia State hosts Newport News Apprentice School in a doubleheader on Friday starting at 1:00 p.m.
