FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton women's tennis team (7-2, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with a 7-2 win over Francis Marion (4-5, 1-1) Wednesday afternoon at Kassab Courts.
Barton also pushed its winning streak to six matches with the triumph over Francis Marion.
The Bulldogs were led by a trio of players who earned victories in both singles and doubles play: junior
Tilde Howeler (Stockholm, SWEDEN), sophomore
Leonie Hellum-Lilleengen (Bekkestua, NORWAY) and freshman
Ruya Mavi (Huddinge, SWEDEN).
Hellum-Lilleengen and Mavi won at No. 3 doubles over Francis Marion's Julia Bellini Fernandes Pinto (Santos, BRAZIL) and Julie Martincova (Liberec, CZECH REBUPLIC) by a score of 6-1. The pair improved to 7-1 on the season as a doubles' tandem while Mavi is 7-1 in singles' play.
Barton hits the road this Saturday to take on North Greenville in a league match beginning at 1:00 p.m., in Tigerville, S.C., while Francis Marion faces Erskine in Due West, S.C., on Saturday at 1:00 p.m., as well.
