FLORENCE, S.C. – The Barton men's tennis team (3-6, 1-0) pulled off a 4-3 upset over Francis Marion (6-5, 0-1) Wednesday afternoon in the Conference Carolinas opener at Kassad Courts. The Patriots are ranked No. 28 in NCAA Division II.
The Bulldogs were led by junior
Hannes Tylehed (Stockholm, SWEDEN) and sophomore
Guillem Busquets Brau (Sabadell, SPAIN) with victories at both singles and doubles play.
The duo won over Francis Marion's Austin Vienna (Huntingdale, Victoria, AUSTRALIA) and Luis Lopez Sarasa (Gorraiz, SPAIN) by a 7-6 (7-4) score at second doubles to take the double's point for the Bulldogs.
Barton junior
Johan Holgersson (Bromma, SWEDEN) defeated Francis Marion's Carlson Lim (Auckland, NEW ZEALAND) at No. 6 singles, 7-5, 5-1, which proved to be the match-winner.
Barton travels to Tigerville, S.C., to face North Greenville in a league match beginning at 1:00 p.m., while Francis Marion faces Mount Olive in Mount Olive, N.C., on Tuesday, March 26, starting at 2:00 p.m.
