Barton women’s basketball falls to Chowan, 72-56, Wednesday on the road

MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (7-14, 6-6) fell to Chowan (9-8, 8-4) by a 72-56 score on Wednesday evening at the Hawks Athletic Center and Bob Burke Court.

The Hawks were led by Tynasia Bunting (Newport News, Va.) with a game-high 21 points while Sydney Roberts (Greensboro, N.C.) added 11 points as Chowan avenged an earlier loss to Barton on Wednesday, January 3, a 74-57 Bulldogs' win.

Barton was led by Nyla Powell (Rocky Mount, N.C.) with 13 points and sophomore guard Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) chipped in with 10 points but the Bulldogs shot just 31 percent (22-of-72) from the field and were forced into 22 turnovers in the setback.

Chowan held a 37-23 edge at halftime and never looked back in the win.  The Hawks, which led by as many as 24 points late in the second half, held a 54-46 advantage on the boards.  Barton was also limited to just one-of-16 (six percent) from behind the charity stripe.

In the next round of Conference Carolinas games on Saturday afternoon at 2:00 p.m., Barton hosts Southern Wesleyan while Chowan remains at home to take on King.
