WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (1-3) was swept in a doubleheader by Seton Hill (4-0), 9-0 and 5-4, Sunday afternoon at Jeffries Field.
Game One – Seton Hill 9, Barton 0 (five innings)
The Griffins' Lauren Dellett (New Florence, Pa.) (2-0) threw a one-hit shutout to go along with five strikeouts while Camryn Murphy (Pittsburgh, Pa.) hit a solo home run and Nina Grandey (North Versailles, Pa.) drove in three runs as Seton Hill run-ruled the Bulldogs.
Seton Hill broke the contest open with three runs in both the second and third innings, respectively, while Barton senior
Miranda Holmes (Godwin, N.C.) (1-1) suffered the loss.
Game Two – Seton Hill 5, Barton 4
The Griffins jumped out to a 5-2 advantage and were able to hold on in the end to complete the sweep. Dellett pitched the last two innings and earned the save after getting the final out of the game with the bases loaded.
Seton Hill's Brooklyn Fukushima (Lakeside, Calif.) drove in a pair of runs while Logan Hartman (Perryopolis, Pa.) improved to 2-0 on the season after earning the win.
Barton senior first baseman
Gracelyn Massey (Princeton, N.C.) led the home team with three hits and two RBI while freshman designated player
Kasey Jones (Mount Olive, N.C.) hit her first collegiate home run despite the setback. Barton freshman
Kerrigan Wonder (Omaha, Neb.) was tagged with the loss.
Barton remains at home to take on West Virginia Tech on Saturday at Noon in a doubleheader while Seton Hill hosts Wheeling University in a doubleheader on Tuesday, February 20, at 1:00 p.m.
