WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (1-1) split a doubleheader with Fairmont State (1-1) Saturday afternoon in the 2024 season opener at Jeffries Field. The Bulldogs won the first contest by a 3-0 score while the Falcons salvaged the split with a 9-1 victory in the nightcap.

Miranda Holmes (Godwin, N.C.) (1-0) threw a one-hit shutout to go along with 11 strikeouts while junior first baseman
Gracelyn Massey (Princeton, N.C.) came through with a key two-run double in the fifth frame to lead the Bulldogs to the win.

Kandyce Condrey (High Point, N.C.) opened the scoring with the game-winning RBI double in the first frame. Fairmont State's Allyson Nordling (Portland, Ore.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss.
Fairmont State 9, Barton 1 (five innings)
The Falcons' Kamilla Slayton (Delaware, Ohio) hit a three-run home run to round out the scoring in the fifth inning for Fairmont State while Delaney Haller (Shinnston, W.Va.) threw a four-hitter as the visitors were able to salvage the split.

MacKenzie Taylor (Mebane, N.C.) drove in the Bulldogs' lone run while freshman
Ali Bunch (Wilmington, N.C.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss.
Barton remains at home to take on Seton Hill in a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at Noon while Fairmont State takes on Chowan in a doubleheader at Murfreesboro, N.C., starting at Noon as well.
