WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (13-2), ranked No. 18 in NCAA Division II, produced a season-high in runs in a 22-2 rout of Bridgeport (Conn.) (0-5) Tuesday afternoon at Nixon Field.
Barton senior catcher
James Holladay (Washington, D.C.) drove in six runs while senior first baseman
John McNamee (Philadelphia, Pa.) added five RBI as the Bulldogs jumped out to an 11-0 lead after two innings of play and never looked back in the dominant win.
Graduate student outfielder
Matthew Rivera (Egg Harbor City, N.J.) added a two-run home run for the Bulldogs, who also finished with 19 hits on the afternoon and added a seven-run fifth frame including a bases-clearing double by Holladay in the triumph.
Barton junior
Steven Maiers (Swedesboro, N.J.) (1-0) pitched two scoreless innings in relief while Bridgeport's Rory Mayer (Berlin, Conn.) (0-1) suffered the loss. The Purple Knight's Sean Jefferson (West Haven, Conn.) hit a solo home run.
Barton also improved to 12-0 at home this season and has scored 42 runs in its past two outings at Nixon Field.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when the Bulldogs host Emmanuel (Ga.) in a doubleheader beginning at 11:00 a.m., while Bridgeport faces Limestone on Wednesday in Gaffney, S.C., starting at 5:00 p.m.
