TIGERVILLE, S.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (1-0) opened the 2024-25 campaign with a 51-48 win over Newberry (0-1) Friday afternoon at Hayes Gymnasium on the campus of North Greenville University in the Southeast Region Conference Challenge.

Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) led all scorers with 17 points to go along with eight rebounds and seven steals and came through with the game-winning three-point play off a steal with two seconds left to lift the Bulldogs to the win.

Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 12 points as the Bulldogs were able to hold on for the win after jumping out to a 21-7 advantage in the second quarter.
Newberry's Ella Pearson (Sudbury, Suffolk, ENGLAND) scored a team-high nine points but no player crossed double-digits for the Wolves, who shot 33 percent (18-of-54) for contest and turned the ball over 27 times in the defeat.
Barton also picked up its first victory under new mentor
Eileen Van Horn.
On the final day of the challenge on Saturday, Barton faces Augusta beginning at 5:00 p.m., while Newberry takes on North Greenville starting at 7:30 p.m.
