WILSON, N.C. – The Barton men's basketball team (0-1) came up short in its 2024-25 season opener with a 78-60 loss to Columbus State (1-0) Friday evening on the first day of the team's annual 45 Second Classic presented by Hampton Inn & Suites and Tru By Hilton at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Cougars' Jarrett Adderton (Decatur, Ga.) led all scorers with 23 points and was one of four players to reach double figures for the visitors.
Columbus State held a 41-31 advantage at halftime and never looked back in picking up the win. The Cougars led by as many as 20 points late in the contest and forced the Bulldogs into 17 turnovers in the victory.
Barton was led by senior guard
Shawn Nelson (Miami, Fla.) with 15 points while senior guard
Jordan Johnson (Bowie, Md.) also scored in double figures after totaling 12 points in the losing effort.
Barton hit just six-of-29 three-point attempts (21 percent) in the setback as well.
On the second day of the classic on Saturday, the Bulldogs host Augusta at 1:00 p.m., after Mount Olive takes on Columbus State beginning at 11:00 a.m., to kick the day off.
