WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (7-15, 4-10) closed out the 2024 home portion of its regular season in style with a 3-1 triumph over Chowan (4-19, 2-14) Wednesday evening in a Conference Carolinas match at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Bulldogs won over the Hawks by scores of 25-21, 25-17, 20-25 and 25-15 and swept the season series from Chowan. Barton prevailed between the two teams on the road by a 3-2 score on Tuesday, October 15, in Murfreesboro, N.C.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Henly Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) with a monster double-double – 20 kills and 18 assists – while senior setter
Hailey Strey (Cape Coral, Fla.) added 30 assists, 11 digs and a pair of service aces as the Bulldogs snapped a three-match losing streak.
Senior right side hitter
Lily Haaga (Herriman, Utah) added a dozen kills for the Bulldogs, who held a 63-41 edge in kills and totaled eight blocks.
Chowan was led by three players with nine kills – Alyssa Thompson (Lynchburg, Va.), Lyniah Lee (Winfield, Ill.) and Kori Rippen (Culbertson, Neb.) – but the visitors suffered their third straight loss.
Barton hits the road to take on Southern Wesleyan on Friday at 6:00 p.m., in Central, S.C., in a league contest while Chowan hosts Francis Marion on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
