WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (4-2, 1-0) opened Conference Carolinas play with an 82-75 win over Southern Wesleyan (2-4, 0-1) Saturday afternoon at Wilson Gymnasium.
Barton showed tremendous scoring balance with five players reaching double figures – led by junior guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) with 16 points – as the Bulldogs won their third straight contest.

Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) and freshman guard
Celeste Bailey (Virginia Beach, Va.) both scored 14 points as well for Barton, who scored 51 points after halftime after spotting Southern Wesleyan a 36-31 advantage at intermission. Both players also hit three treys on the afternoon.
Barton closed the game on an 11-1 run over the final four minutes and held a 49-36 advantage in rebounding.
Southern Wesleyan was led by Taylin Smith (Beaverton, Ore.) with 19 points in addition to six three-pointers despite the setback. The Warriors lost despite hitting 12 treys in the contest but shot just 47 percent (nine-of-19) from the charity stripe.
The Bulldogs host USC Aiken on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m., while Southern Wesleyan hosts Flagler on Tuesday, November 26, at 5:00 p.m., as well.
