SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The Barton women's volleyball team (8-19) saw its 2024 season come to an end with a split on the opening day of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Championship Saturday afternoon at Hannah Gymnasium on the campus of Converse University.
Barton 3, King 0
The Bulldogs, the 11th seed in the tournament, stayed alive with a 3-0 sweep over eighth-seeded King (11-12). Barton won over the Tornado by scores of 25-22, 30-28 and 25-20.
Barton was led by senior outside hitter
Henly Sleight (Jackson, Mich.) with a match-high 15 kills while senior right side hitter
Lauryn Pitt (Greenville, N.C.) added 14 kills in the triumph.
Sleight added 13 digs to complete a double-double while senior setter
Hailey Strey (Cape Coral, Fla.) notched a double-double – 28 assists and 10 digs – as well as the Bulldogs limited the Tornado to a .116 hitting percentage. King's Gracia Love (Greenback, Tenn.) finished with 10 kills and 12 digs in the losing effort.
Converse 3, Barton 0
The Valkyries, the fifth seed in the championship, advanced to the quarterfinals with a 3-0 sweep of the Bulldogs: 25-18, 25-15 and 25-12.
Converse (20-9) hit .343 for the match and was led by Ariel Bryant (Fort Mill, S.C.) with 14 kills. Pitt and Sleight both finished with a team-high six kills while Sleight led the Bulldogs this year with 314 kills.
Converse will take on fourth-seeded North Greenville (18-13) on Thursday at 5:00 p.m., in the Quarterfinals of the 2024 Conference Carolinas Championship at the North Charleston Athletic Center in North Charleston, S.C.
