WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (1-2) lost to Virginia Union (2-1), 75-58, Wednesday evening in the 2024-25 home opener at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Panthers' Rori Cox (Brooklyn, N.Y.) scored a team-high 20 points while Nevaeh Reaves (Columbus, Ohio) added 19 points as Virginia Union raced to a 22-point advantage midway through the third quarter before holding off Barton for the victory.

Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) led all scorers with 26 points and senior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) also reached double figures in points with 14 but the home team saw themselves trailing by a 52-30 deficit with just under five minutes remaining in the third stanza.
The Bulldogs hit just five-of-20 (25 percent) three-point attempts and were turned over 22 times in the setback. Barton's new mentor,
Eileen Van Horn, was also coaching her first game at home.
Barton returns to the court to face Winston-Salem State in Winston-Salem, N.C., on Tuesday evening beginning at 5:30 p.m., while Virginia Union faces Emory & Henry in Emory, Va., starting at 7:00 p.m.
