Barton women’s basketball downs Lees-McRae, 70-60, Saturday at home

WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (6-13, 5-5) pulled out a 70-60 win over Lees-McRae (1-14, 0-10) Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.

Barton sophomore guard Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) led all scorers with 23 points while senior guard Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) added 14 points as the Bulldogs held off a mini-surge by the Bobcats late in the contest to take the win.

Lees-McRae's Leah Barringer (Charlotte, N.C.) led the visitors with 16 points and was one of four players to reach double figures for the Bobcats but the squad was doomed by 33 turnovers and shot just 20 percent (four-of-20) from behind the three-point line.

The Bulldogs led by as many as 19 points – 65-46 with 3:34 left in the contest – and scored 31 points off of Bobcats' turnovers.  Barton freshman center Nyla Powell (Rocky Mount, N.C.) added 12 points in the victory.  The Bulldogs also produced 16 steals in the contest.

Barton next competes on Saturday, February 3, against Converse in a league contest in Spartanburg, S.C., beginning at 2:00 p.m., while Lees-McRae hosts King on Tuesday at 5:00 p.m.
