WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's basketball team (4-11, 3-3) lost to Emmanuel (10-5, 6-1) by an 81-60 score on Saturday afternoon in a Conference Carolinas contest at Wilson Gymnasium.
The Lions, the top team in the league's Southwest Division, were led by Sydney Wyatt (Simpsonville, S.C.) with a team-high 27 points to go along with 13 rebounds for a double-double as the visitors led by as many as 27 points and held off a furious Bulldogs' rally to take the win.
Four players reached double figures for Emmanuel while Tyasia Freeman (Waynesboro, Ga.) added a second double-double – 19 points and 12 rebounds – as the Lions held a decisive 58-27 edge on the boards.
Barton, who came all the way back to cut the margin to 64-56 with just over six minutes left, was led by senior guard
Lauren Walker (Charlotte, N.C.) with 19 points while senior guard
Lauren Mingo (Clinton, Md.) also scored in double figures and finished with 13 points and six assists in the losing effort.
Emmanuel also powered its way to the victory with a 25-of-27 performance (93 percent) from the charity stripe.
Barton next takes on UNC Pembroke in Pembroke, N.C., on Wednesday at 5:00 p.m., in a league contest while Emmanuel hosts Erskine on Tuesday beginning at 5:00 p.m.
