WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (21-14, 14-7) completed the three-game Conference Carolinas weekend series sweep with a 5-2 victory over Southern Wesleyan (12-25, 7-14) Friday afternoon in a rain-shortened five-inning affair at Nixon Field.

John McNamee (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with a pair of hits and three runs batted in as the Bulldogs moved into sole possession of second place in the league standings.
Barton staked itself to a 3-0 lead after one inning of play and was able to hold on for the victory before the rain came. McNamee rounded out the scoring with a two-run single in the fifth frame. Junior shortstop
Ryan McIsaac (Millville, N.J.) added two runs scored while sophomore
Jacob Shapley (Sewell, N.J.) (3-2) earned the victory in relief for the Bulldogs.
For Southern Wesleyan, Tyler Jackson (Sandy Springs, Ga.) and Dawson Gilstrap (Pickens, S.C.) both drove in runs with doubles while Mikah Gustavson (Lake City, Fla.) (1-3) suffered the loss.
Barton remains at home to take on Coker on Wednesday beginning at 3:00 p.m., while Southern Wesleyan hosts Anderson on Tuesday starting at 6:00 p.m.
