MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (29-18, 20-10) continued its recent hot streak with a 5-1 win over Chowan (6-33, 4-26) Saturday afternoon in the third and final game of a Conference Carolinas weekend series at Hawkins Field.
Barton junior first baseman
Johnnie Lowery (Lumberton, N.C.) hit a three-run home run in the third frame as the Bulldogs won their sixth straight contest and guaranteed themselves the second seed in the 2023 Conference Carolinas Baseball Championship next week.
Barton freshman
Walker Fuller (Virginia Beach, Va.) improved to 2-0 on the season after holding the Hawks scoreless while pitching into the sixth inning and striking out four batters.
Barton sophomore third baseman
Jared Beebe (Atco, N.J.) added an RBI double in the first frame as the Bulldogs limited the Hawks to just four hits on the entire afternoon.
For Chowan, Aidan Feather (Chesapeake, Va.) hit a home run while the Hawks' Timothy Blackman (Chesapeake, Va.) (0-1) was tagged with the loss. Chowan finished the season with six consecutive setbacks.
The league tournament will take place from Wednesday, May 3, through Sunday, May 7, 2023, at CaroMont Health Park in Gastonia, N.C. The Bulldogs are scheduled to play first on Thursday at 3:00 p.m.
