WILSON, N.C. – The Barton women's lacrosse team (10-7) used a dominant second half to roll to a 17-3 win over Emmanuel (7-10) Tuesday afternoon in the quarterfinal round of the 2023 Conference Carolinas Championship.

Barton will host top-seeded Mount Olive (12-5) in the semifinals of the league tournament on Friday beginning at Noon.

The Bulldogs, seeded fourth in the league championship, broke a 1-1 tie late in the first quarter by scoring 12 straight goals to turn the contest into a rout.

The Bulldogs were led by sophomore attacker Kate Matuza (Hampstead, N.C.) and sophomore defender Tamia Marshall (Wilmington, N.C.) with three goals each as Barton defeated Emmanuel for the second time this season.  Barton also won its third straight contest.

Freshman goalkeeper Avery Gandolf (Media, Ohio) earned the victory in goal after stopping 10 shots for the Bulldogs, who held advantages in both shots taken (40-21) and ground balls (27-19).  Barton also forced fifth-seeded Emmanuel into 28 turnovers in the win.

Emmanuel was led by Justine Dorelas (Tamarac, Fla.) with a pair of goals while Madison Duncan (Springboro, Ohio) suffered the loss in goal despite 10 saves as well.
