WILSON, N.C. – The Barton baseball team (23-18, 15-10) saw a three-run advantage in the eighth frame disappear as UNC Pembroke (34-10, 17-7) rallied to win in 10 innings, 9-8, in a Conference Carolinas showdown at Nixon Field.
The Braves' Trent Harris (Raleigh, N.C.) hit a game-tying two-run home run in the ninth inning to force extra innings before coming through with the game-winning RBI single in the tenth frame.
Barton lost despite the play of sophomore third baseman
Jared Beebe (Atco, N.J.), who finished six-for-six on the day including a three-run home run in the sixth inning. Freshman second baseman
Salvatore Laimo (Philadelphia, Pa.) added a pair of RBI for the Bulldogs, who's last three setbacks in league play have come by one run.
UNC Pembroke's Christian Jayne (Fayetteville, N.C.) added three runs batted in for the visitors while Harris (6-2) also picked up the win after pitching the final two innings and holding the Bulldogs without a run. Barton junior
Brett Anderson (Milford, N.H.) fell to 2-4 after taking the loss.
The two teams will wrap up the Conference Carolinas weekend series with a doubleheader on Sunday beginning at Noon at Nixon Field as part of Senior Day.
