WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (21-20) celebrated Senior Day in style with a 9-1 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan (23-11) Tuesday afternoon at Jeffries Field.
The Bulldogs jumped out to a 4-0 lead after one inning of play and never looked back into run-ruling the Battling Bishops. Barton senior third baseman
Lindsey Massengill (Pine Level, N.C.) drove in three runs while sophomore designated player
Gracelyn Massey (Princeton, N.C.) added a pair of RBI in the victory.
The Battling Bishops were also hurt by three errors which led to three unearned runs for the Bulldogs. Barton senior
Shelby Talley (Oxford, N.C.) improved to 2-0 on the year after earning the win in relief while Emily Humphrey (Clemmons, N.C.) (9-4) suffered the loss.
North Carolina Wesleyan's Mary Katherine Raynor (Pink Hill, N.C.) drove in a run in the losing effort.
Barton returns to Conference Carolinas play on Saturday when the Bulldogs travel to Belmont, N.C., to take on Belmont Abbey in a doubleheader beginning at Noon while North Carolina Wesleyan hosts Brevard on Saturday in a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m.
