WILSON, N.C. – The Barton softball team (5-5) split a home doubleheader with Georgian Court (9-7) Saturday afternoon at Jeffries Field. The Bulldogs won the first contest by a 6-3 score while the Lions salvaged the split with a 5-2 victory in the nightcap.
Game One – Barton 6, Georgian Court 3
Trailing by a 3-2 score, the Bulldogs plated four runs in the bottom of the fifth inning highlighted by the game-winning, two-run double from senior outfielder
Elyse Brinn (Belhaven, N.C.). Senior second baseman
Emily Bell (Bunn, N.C.) added two hits, two runs scored and an RBI in the win for the home team as well.
Barton senior
AnnaKate Gilchrist (Clayton, N.C.) improved to 2-1 on the year after allowing just one hit while coming on in relief in the fourth inning with one out and holding the Lions scoreless the rest of the way. Gilchrist struck out two batters.
Georgian Court's Adriana Mungo (Temecula, Calif.) hit a two-run home run while Janelle Blaszka (Beachwood, N.J.) fell to 2-3 after suffering the loss.
Game Two – Georgian Court 5, Barton 2
Mungo added three hits and three RBI in the nightcap while Brittany Gable (Bayville, N.J.) hit a solo home run as Georgian Court jumped out to a 4-0 advantage after two innings of play and never looked back in the victory.
Brinn drove in the Bulldogs' only runs in the bottom of the fourth inning with a single. On the mound, the Lions' Maddie Rabe (Waipio, Hawai'i) (3-1) went the distance to earn the win while junior
Miranda Holmes (Norfolk, Va.) (1-1) took the loss for Barton.
